The short version. The Pip Says app has no account, no adverts and no tracking. We don't collect personal information about you or your child. Stars, names and settings stay on your device and in your own iCloud, where we can't see them.
Who we are
Pip Says is made by Boroto Ltd, company number 15171190, registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 10 Church Square, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1AE, England. You can reach us at hello@pipsays.net.
What stays on your device
To work, the app keeps a few things on your iPhone or iPad:
- your child's first name, if you choose to type it, and the name of their animal friend
- stars, levels, the things in their room and how long they have played today
- your settings, such as language, voice, play time and your PIN
If iCloud is switched on, the app also keeps a copy in your own iCloud (Apple's key-value storage), so progress moves with you to a new device. This copy belongs to your Apple ID. We have no access to it.
Names in Pip's voice (optional)
This feature isn't switched on yet, so today no names or recordings leave the phone. When it is, the app will be able to say your child's name in Pip's voice. This will only happen if a grown-up agrees on the "Just for grown-ups" screen. When it does, the name you type, or a short recording of how you say it, is sent once over an encrypted connection to our voice service, which uses ElevenLabs to make the sound. We don't keep the name or the recording. The finished sound is stored on your device and in your iCloud. You can skip this and still use everything.
Services the app uses
- Apple handles iCloud, the App Store, payments, and the "Rate Pip Says" window. Apple's own privacy policy applies to these.
- RevenueCat checks whether the one-time unlock has been bought, so it works on all your devices. It receives a random app ID and Apple's purchase receipt. No name, email or information about your child.
- Expo delivers app updates. When the app opens it checks for a newer version, sending technical details such as the app version, the type of device and a random install ID. Nothing personal.
- ElevenLabs makes the name sound, only if you choose that, as described above.
The app doesn't use analytics, adverts, social media trackers or any other third-party tracking, and we never sell data.
Reminders and messages
The daily reminder is a notification set up on your device. Nothing is sent to us. "Send us a note" opens your own email app. If you write to us, we use your email address only to reply, and delete the conversation when it's no longer needed.
Children
Pip Says is made for children aged 2 to 6 and follows Apple's rules for the Kids category. Children never see adverts or links that leave the app. Settings, purchases, rating and emailing us all sit in the parents' corner, behind a check a small child can't pass. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Deleting everything
In the parents' corner, "Delete all my data on this phone" clears the stars, names and settings on the device and the copy in your iCloud, and starts the app fresh. Deleting the app also removes what it kept on that device. A purchase stays with your Apple ID and comes back with "Restore purchases".
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Because we don't keep personal information about families, there is usually nothing for us to hand over, but please ask us anything at hello@pipsays.net.
This website
This website, pipsays.net, is separate from the app. Nothing you do here is linked to the app or to your child.
- Visit counts, only if you agree. When you first visit, we ask whether we may use Google Analytics. If you say yes, Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by a code) that last about 13 months, so we can see how many people visit, which pages help, and which buttons get tapped, such as the App Store button or a question in the help pages. Google may receive your IP address to work out a rough location, and does not store it. We have switched off Google's advertising features, and we never use this to show you adverts.
- If you say no, or don't choose. No analytics cookies are set. Google may still receive a simple signal that a page was viewed, without any cookie or identifier, which it uses to estimate visit numbers.
- Changing your mind. Tap "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page. You can also clear this site's cookies in your browser.
- Your choice is remembered in your browser's own storage on your device. It isn't sent to us.
- Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run the site and keep it secure.
- The try-it game on the homepage runs in your browser. The voices and pictures come from this website, not from anywhere else.
Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then deleted. Google acts as our data processor; you can read Google's privacy policy. Our legal basis for analytics is your consent.
Changes
If we change how the app handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
